“SYNTHESE” n°10 :
analysis of the big spending tendencies |
Between 1991 and 2008, the housing environment dethroned the food supply, as first expense for New Caledonians. Transport progressed a lot, to become almost equal with the food supply in 2008.
All in all, from these 343 000 F.CFP of spending a month, a New Caledonian household dedicates more than two thirds satisfying its needs in housing environment, food supply and transport. |
 |
“SYNTHESE” n°11 :
comparison between the three provinces |
| In 2008, the South Province's households spend and gain on average two to three times more than those of the North and the Loyalty islands. On the spending side, the housing environment explains mainly this heterogeneity. The spending structure also differs from one province to the other, advancing their specificities. The housing environment expenses lead amply in the South and the food supply in the Islands. |
 |
| The North Province households have to dedicate more to the transport than the others. |
“SYNTHESE” n°13 :
Places of purchases and expenses of New Caledonians |
|
In 2008, households buy 44% of their food supply in hypermarkets, and 61% of their clothes or 80% of durable goods in specialized stores. But the behavior depends mainly on the household's standard of living and its place of residence. So, most of the modest households rather go to small stores and the better off to hypermarkets.
|
 |
| The Loyalty islands households favour general food stores for number of their purchases, having no other choice, whereas those of the North prefer the discount food store and those of the South the hypermarkets. Purchases of clothes abroad strongly developed, against those by internet . |
